Why Davines?
A far cry from the convenient greenwashing of other major 'eco' brands - Davines is a family owned, family operated B-Corp. They have created an entirely carbon negative village in Parma, Italy to run their enterprise, where they support the local farmers of this historically low-income region. Their origins in chemical research exploring the science of plants and their cosmetic properties, inspired the launch of their own brand Davines, in 1992.
As professionals, we love how these products offer beautiful natural results while maintaining the vitality and integrity of the hair. Their low-ammonia, vegan formulas offer high impact results, with minimal impact to our environment.
For home use, Davines' essential range offers no nonsense full spectrum hair care, in recycled food grade packaging, and here at SHED we offer a refill service, saving you money and saving unnecessary plastics in our environment.

Beyond the Basics
At SHED, sustainability is built into our DNA as a business, and while being environmentally concious feels at times now a days like a competition, we are taking every step possible to be as minimally impactful to our planet as we can.
Materials
When desinging and building the salon, Kate wanted to source as many reclaimed materials as she could. Luckily she's got a good friend whos a talented local carpenter so we used as much repurposed wood from his stock pile as possible. Many of our decorative items have been sourced from a lifetime of travelling and collecting by Kate's family and for our professional equipment we've used UK based brands wherever we can.
Refreshments
While the UK doesn't exactly have the ideal climate for tea and coffee production, we have sourced only fair trade and organic certified tea and coffee for you the enjoy. We source our milk selection locally and have invested in a soda stream to minimise our plastic waste for cold refreshments.
Cleaning
We have made a concious choice to only use cleaning products around the salon that have minimal impact on planet and people. Due to availability specific brands may change from time to time but rest assured we will always make ethical and environmental choices.
Other
In a perfect world, there would be an environmentally freindly solution to every one of our needs in the salon, but due to health and safety, the risk of chemical overlap, and the reality of the economic climate, there are times we have to make choices that we have less control over. Luckily, we operate in a county where none of our general waste goes to landfill, and is instead burned to power the Plymouth docks.
